Way back in April, I entered my photography into the Exposure Photography Awards. I've never entered any of my photographs into a competition like this before - my ego is easily battered and 'not winning' only feeds my ' I must be a complete failure' mentality. I did it anyway - didn't overthink my image selection too much - didn't overthink any of it too much - and entered. THEN I read the fine print! Doh!
It was then I hit a crossroads - to be part of a digital exhibition at the Louvre, I needed 100 Votes AND 100 Comments. 100 VOTES AND 100 COMMENTS!!!??? For me and my small ( I now know, small, but mighty!!) following, this seemed an impossible task. So, the crossroads - do I just kind of ignore the competition and pretend I never entered? Or do I fight for my images to be shown at the Louvre?
Well - the gloves came out. I got my votes and comments AND my place in the digital exhibition at THE LOUVRE!!
This didn't end up being all about winning the competition - my own personal goal was to get the required votes & comments. And what comments I got! I was, and still am, incredibly humbled by some of the comments people left. It was clear that a lot of thought went into them, and THAT more than anything made me feel like a winner (cheese-fest I know - but true!). So to all of you who used their precious time, to make my day, THANK YOU. It doesn't really say what I mean - but I'm really not a words person, and so the best I can do is.... thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
This is the image that was chosen to be a part of the display - still can't quite believe that this face was in the actual Louvre!! One day, I hope, she'll think this to be WAY cool!
